Tips For Getting Quality Health Care On A Budget

Blog

If you're on a budget, you may think that quality health care is out of reach.  Even if you have medical insurance, funds may be so tight that you simply can't afford the co-pay or the deductible.  However, even if your income is limited, you don't have to put your healthcare needs on the back burner.  Use this information to learn about two tips that can help you get quality health care when money is tight.

Pro Bono Doctors

Although you may have heard of pro-bono attorneys, you may not realize that there are a number of doctors who also provide pro-bono work to the public. They may be able to take you on as a patient without you having to pay out-of-pocket.

Pro-bono physicians understand that money issues can sometimes cause people to stay away from the doctor when they really need professional medical care. These caring doctors can help with everything from general primary care to prenatal care. Pro-bono doctors may be the recipient of governmental grants, or they may be sponsored by organizations with an array of different donors who help to cover the costs of things like medical supplies and clinic utilities, so that the doctor is able to offer their services for free.

Because pro-bono doctors are typically in high demand, they often do not do a great deal of advertising. It may take a little legwork to find them, so call around to several clinics and private practices until you locate a pro-bono physician.  Even if you call a facility that doesn't do pro-bono work, they may still be able to point you in the right direction.

Call Your Local Homeless Shelter

On certain days of the week or month, a volunteer doctor will visit certain homeless shelters to administer medical care to the people who need it. You can call various shelters in your area to find out when the visiting doctor will be there and plan to see them.

Keep in mind that if you aren't staying at the shelter, you may be subject to a nominal fee.  However, it will usually be much less than what you would pay at a traditional clinic.

Don't let your income keep you from getting the health care services that you need. Start using these tips right away so you can see the doctor no matter what your financial limitations may be.
